With that said: Let's talk being "GREEN" in this new year! Now in passing, we have mentioned the word..."Car-pooling". But this month, or the rest of the year for that lovely matter, we REALLY want you to re-consider your driving options.
The Benefits of Carpooling:
- Save money on gas!
- Make new friends, or grow in relationships you already have at work, school, church, etc..
- Keep the mileage, and the cost of maintenance, low on your car.
- Lower the population of traffic during rush hour.
- Less exhaust in the air=less pollution that you and your little ones have to inhale.
The Facts on Carpooling:
- A small car with a 1.6 liter engine
creates almost 1/2 pound of carbon dioxide for every 1/2 mile it travels. Cutting a 20 mile trip out of your schedule each week can reduce your global warming pollution by more than 1,200 pounds a year and save you over $100 in gas expenses.
A regular rush-hour driver wastes an average of 99 gallons of gasoline a year due to traffic. The average cost of the time lost in rush hour traffic is $1,160 per person.
100 carpooling people can prevent 1,320 pounds of carbon monoxide and 2,376,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere in a single year.
How to get connected with your local Carpool group:
a. Ask around at work, church, neighbors, and see if there is a group already set-up.
b. Create a group if there is not one.
c. See the links below!
