JUNE TIP: WATER SAVER PHASE II

The kitchen! As I’m sure you know we waste a lot of water when cleaning our lovely dishes. Whether you have a dishwasher or wash with your own dish pan hands there are some simple tips that you can remember to help you reduce your water usage, simply!

Her are Some Facts and Tips:

For those with dishwashers:

  • Buy an energy efficient dishwasher. They will moderate the cycle to do it’s primary objective resourcefully. You can also write off this purchase on your taxes the following year!
  • Only run the dishwasher when it's completely full.
  • Use the water-level settings for the most efficient washing.

For those without dishwashers:

  • When washing your dishes manually put the water on low and use COLD water. Hot water is just more energy and your electrical bill higher. I promise your hands can handle it.
  • Fill your sink with water for rinsing.
  • Don't run the water without plugging the sink.
  • Turn faucets off when not in use.

Other Tips:

  • Reducing hot water use saves energy because your hot water heater has less work to do. Recent research has shown that on average about 73% of the water used through residential faucets is hot water.

  • Don’t let the faucet run continuously while washing dishes. If your faucet uses 2.2 gpm, then you can save about 1.6 gallons of hot water for every minute you reduce your faucet use.
  • Kitchen sink disposals require lots of water to operate properly. Start a compost pile as an alternate method of disposing of food waste instead of using a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals also can add 50 percent to the volume of solids in a septic tank, which can lead to malfunctions and maintenance problems.

Thanks y'all. Great post this month as usual.

I've been flushing the toilet with the water that usually gets wasted as the shower warms up and reusing dishwater for the same purpose. I'm trying to do more to save water lately and I'm a little disappointed at how I've wasted water in the past.

well keep up the good work.
